Distressed Wooden Mirror Frame

I've always wanted to make distressed look on wooden frames, furniture or anything at all. So last Sunday I've finally bought an old mirror at car boot sale with usual gold painted frame. I have already started restoring it with wood filler as it had quite few little cracks. Can't wait to properly start working on it with paint!
Today I have spent nearly two hours at local B&Q store choosing a perfect colour for my new mirror. A young helpful store assistant suggested that i would go for store mixed paint service that they do. I wasn't sure at first as i couldn't find a colour that i liked in their colour palette but then decided to get a sample of a colour that was close to what i have been looking for. And oh am i so glad that i got persuaded?!.. The colour turned out perfect, exactly what i was looking for! I am so excited about this project. Work with base coat starts tomorrow.

Oatmeal and Currant Cookies

So today seemed like a good day for baking. I wanted to try oatmeal cookies for ages now and finally, for my brothers' delight, that day came today. My brothers are always happy when i bake something because that means extra sugar in their bloodstream. They love anything that's sweet and preferably home made.

Oatmeal and Currant Cookies
Oatmeal and Currant Cookies

Ingredients:
Makes about 24 cookies

175 g/6 oz plain flour
150 g/5 oz porridge oats
1tsp ground ginger
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp bicarbonate of soda
125 g4 oz demerara sugar
50 g/2 oz currants
1 egg
150 ml/1/4 pint vegetable oil
4 tbsp milk

Preheat the oven to 200°C. Combine all the dry ingredients together in a bowl and make a well in the centre. In a different bowl beat the egg lightly then add oil and milk. Stir it and pour into the well. Mix all the ingredients together until well combined.

Line a baking tray with greaseproof paper. Place little balls of dough on the tray and flatten them with fork. Put in preheated oven for about 15 minutes or until golden. Leave to cool down for few minutes. And enjoy :)

Salad in a Sandwich

Today is a nice and sunny day in Blackpool for a change. I hope it will stay like this now. We need summer in England too, you know.
Anyway because it was sunny today, i felt like having something lighter for lunch.

Salad in a sandwich

Ingredients:

2 slices of your favourite bread (i used Hovis wholemeal bread but it's even better with home made or in store baked bread)
Mixed leaf salad (i used lambs lettuce and ruby chard)
Margarine or butter
1 tomato
Few slices of  cucumber
Sunflower seeds
Salad dressing (i used balsamic dressing)
Freshly ground black pepper

I probably don't need to tell you how to make a sandwich but i found that putting lettuce leaves on the slice of bread first and then adding other ingredients on top is the best because lettuce leaves don't fall out while eating. So anyway, assemble your sandwich, drizzle a little bit of salad dressing on top and sprinkle with some ground pepper, cover it with another slice of bread. Voila! You got yourself a salad sandwich. Enjoy.

Cook with me

Recently, well about a year ago or maybe longer, i realised that i liked cooking and baking. As a result, i now own about 23 recipe books. My aim is to try and make all the recipes from them. You are welcome to follow me in my journey through cook books.

Blueberry and Raspberry pancakes.

Blueberry, Raspberry and Cinnamon Pancakes
Makes about 18 pancakes

Ingredients:

200g/7 oz self-raising flour
100g/3 1/2 oz caster sugar
1 tsp ground cinnamon (although i think the more the better) :)
1 egg
200 ml/7 fl oz milk
1 tsp butter
Handful of blueberries
Handful of raspberries
Maple syrup to serve

Mix all the dry ingredients together in a bowl and make a well in the centre. Beat the egg and milk together and pour into the well. Mix all the ingredients together until well combined.

Heat the butter in a large frying pan over medium heat until melted. Add pancake batter to the pan to form circles. Add few blueberries on top of some of the pancakes and few raspberries on the top of the other pancakes. Cook each pancake for about a minute or until it starts to bubble lightly on the top. Flip it over and cook for about 30 seconds, or until coked through. Enjoy :)

Picture a day Project

For a long time now i wanted to do 'Picture a Day Project'. I think turning 29 was a bit of a kick in a back side for me to do more and to create more. So yesterday i have started a project 'Picture a Day'. I will be sharing some of the pictures on here with you. At the end of the year when i turn 30, i'm going to publish the whole project here.

My amazing brothers

My brothers took me on a road trip for my birthday. We went to see lighthouses. I have always been fascinated by lighthouses but have never seen one close up before. It was one of my many dreams to see and to tour a lighthouse. So on my birthday my brothers made sure that my dream would come true :) Thank you so much both of you. You are the best brothers a girl could have.
